Please be aware that while Florida polls close at 7 p.m., Florida has two time zones. Voting will not be completed statewide until 7 p.m. Central / 8 p.m. Eastern, at which time, election results will be released.
Announcements From the Division
A statewide constitutional amendment appears on the primary election ballot pursuant to Chapter 2016-118, Laws of Florida. Therefore, voter turnout will be derived based on the total number of active registered voters in the state as of bookclosing on August 1, 2016.
Reporting and Certification of Election Results
The timeline for county canvassing boards to report results are as follows:
- Tuesday, August 30, 2016: Preliminary Election Night Returns are due no later than 7:30 pm in the respective county’s time zone on Primary Election night and every 45 minutes thereafter.
- Friday, September 2, 2016: Unofficial Returns are due no later than noon on the 3rd day after Primary Election day. The Division will subsequently determine if a machine recount is triggered, and a recount needs to be ordered.
- Sunday, September 4, 2016: Second Unofficial Returns (only if a machine recount is triggered and ordered following Unofficial Returns) are due no later than 3 p.m. on the 5th day after Primary Election Day. The Division will subsequently determine if a manual recount is triggered and a recount needs to be ordered.
- Tuesday, September 6, 2016: Official Returns are due no later than 5 pm on the 7th day after Primary Election day. The results of the manual recount, if any, are included in the official returns.
The Elections Canvassing Commission certifies the Official Returns for each federal, state, and multicounty office on the 9th day after the Primary Election which is Thursday, September 8, 2016.
